Robert Burgelman, Stanford University
Robert Burgelman is the Edmund W. Littlefield Professor of Management and the Executive Director of the Stanford Executive Program (SEP) of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he has taught since 1981. He obtained a Licenciate degree in Applied Economics from Antwerp University (Belgium), and an MA in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Management of Organizations from Columbia University, where he studied with doctoral fellowships from the Ford Foundation (US) and ICM (Belgium). His research has focused on the role of strategy-making in firm evolution. In particular, he has studied the strategy-making processes involved in how companies enter into new businesses and exit from existing ones to secure continued adaptation. In 2003 he received an honorary doctorate from the Copenhagen Business School for his contributions to the study of corporate innovation and entrepreneurship. He has published many articles in leading academic and professional journals. He has taught executive programs and led senior and top management seminars for major companies worldwide. He currently serves on the board of directors of SHOP.COM, a private company.

Tomi Laamanen, University of St. Gallen
Tomi Laamanen is Chaired Professor of Strategic Management, Director of the Institute of Management, Director of the PhD Program of Management, and Academic Director of the Strategy and International Management Master (SIM) Program of the University of St.Gallen. He holds two D.Sc. degrees; one in Strategy and one in Finance, and his research focuses on strategic management with a special emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, management cognition, strategy process, and capability dynamics. Tomi Laamanen is former Associate Editor of Strategic Management Journal, Editor-in-Chief of Long Range Planning, and member of the Editorial Boards of Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Discovery, Journal of Management, and Strategic Management Journal. Tomi has co-chaired two SMS Special Conferences (in Lapland and in St.Gallen), the Strategy Process IG of the SMS, and the Strategizing Activities and Practices (SAP) IG at the Academy of Management. At the moment, Tomi Laamanen is the Chair of the Strategic Management Special Interest Group of EURAM. In addition, Tomi Laamanen has actively worked with a number of firms as Chairman, Member of the Board, or strategy advisor.

Hanna Lehtimaki, University of Eastern Finland
Hanna Lehtimaki (Ph.D. School of Management, University of Tampere) is a Professor of Innovation Management at the University of Eastern Finland Business School and a docent at the University of Tampere. Her research interests include business and management innovation, stakeholder and other relational approaches in strategic management and leadership, and qualitative research with a focus on social constructionist methodology. She was the Chair of Strategy Practice interest group in 2013-2014. Her articles have appeared in such journals as Business Communication Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, Higher Education, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, International Journal of Human Resource Development and Management, Scandinavian Journal of Management and South Asian Journal of Business and Management Cases.

Richard Whittington, University of Oxford
Richard Whittington is Professor of Strategic Management at the Saïd Business School and Millman Fellow at New College, University of Oxford. He has held visiting positions at Harvard Business School, HEC Paris, the University of Toulouse and the University of Technology Sydney. He has been a member of the Strategic Management Society since 1992, and co-founded the Strategy Practice Interest Group. He has served one term as Director-at-Large for the SMS. He was a co-chair for the 2010 SMS Special Conference in Finland, an event coordinated with the Strategy Process and Strategy Practice Interest Groups. He was co-chair for the first SMS pre-conference doctoral workshop and has co-chaired the Body of Knowledge working group for the Society's professional certification initiative. He was a co-founder of the Academy of Management SAP Interest Group, of which he is a past chair. His main current research area is 'strategy as practice', investigating strategy as a kind of work and profession. He has published singly or jointly nine books, including 'What is Strategy - and Does it Matter?' and 'Exploring Strategy'. He is an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and is co-editing a special issue on Strategy Process and Strategy Practice for the journal.
This Panel will kick off the conference's conversations on strategy processes and strategy practices. It will set the context by introducing key issues from the long tradition of Strategy Process research. It will also introduce the new strands of research on Strategy-as-Practice. Together with the executive and academic audience, the panellists will develop directions for the research agenda on the intersection of Strategy Processes and Strategy Practices.
